Dmitry Medvedev calls for cutting inefficient jobs

28 September 2013, Saturday

“I do not think I will shock somebody here if I say that we are in for difficult times. And now, we need to use our advantage – we have a very low unemployment rate compared to the Western countries. We need to step away from the policy of preserving employment at any cost,” – he addressed the meeting.

“You need to think very carefully when making these decisions, simultaneously allowing people to attend additional training or to get a new qualification. Obviously, some people, and it may be a considerable share of the public, will have to change more than just a job – an occupation or a place of residence, but it all has to be done. Only in this case we will have a more contemporary economic model,” – the Russian Government’s website quoted Prime Minister’s words.

Dmitry Medvedev stated his certainty that the public sector labor resources need to be used more efficiently, stimulating late retirement amongst qualified staff and restructuring towns’ core enterprises.
