Rustam Minnikhanov: "The potential of trade unions can effectively solve a variety of problems"

On December 5, in Kazan speaking at XXVI conference the Federation of Trade Unions of Tatarstan, which summed up results of the work for five years and set up priority areas for further development, Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov said that regional trade unions contribute significantly to all achievements of the republic.

Welcoming the conference participants, Minnikhanov noted the scale of trade union organizations of Tatarstan, which unites more than 800 thousand people.

"Over the past five years, Tatarstan has achieved notable successes in its socio-economic development. We focused on the diversification of the economy, innovative development, consistent implementation of investment projects and social programmes, development of sport, culture and tourism. As a result, the republic today holds leading positions in the country on a number of important indicators. In particular, it ranks first in terms of the investment climate, second in innovation, third in terms of agricultural production, and fifth in terms of industrial production and foreign trade. The demographic situation has improved –  for the first ten months of this year the natural population growth has made more than eight thousand people. With negative processes in global financial markets, we are able to provide a decent standard of living of the citizens of Tatarstan," Minnikhanov said.

"The reduction of tension in the labor market, wage arrears, decline in unemployment, as well as the introduction of modern approaches to the regulation of wages, improving the legal culture of employee are main achievements of social partnership,” he said.

"The potential of trade unions can effectively solve a variety of problems," Minnikhanov concluded.
