Rustam Minnikhanov takes part in meeting of the Executive Bureau of the International Organization “The United Cities and Local Governments”

On May 26, a meeting of the Executive Bureau of the International Organization “The United Cities and Local Governments” held at the Kazan Fair.

Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov, Chairman of Tatarstan State Council and Chairman of the Current Affairs Committee of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe Farid Mukhametshin, Mayor of Kazan and Co-President of “The United Cities and Local Governments” Ilsur Metshin, and other officials took part in the event.

Opening the meeting, Metshin said that Kazan was the first city in the Eurasia region to host a statutory event of the international organization “The United Cities and Local Governments”.

“The expertise each of those gathered here today has is priceless and unique,” he stressed. “I hope the work will be productive and memorable.”

According to Minnikhanov, the United Cities and Local Governments has become powerful and widely known organization.   

Minnikhanov said that experience of the republic in terms of preservation and development of traditions of many cultures can be in demand. He also supported close cooperation between local and regional authorities within the UCLG organization. "Municipalities play an important role in the government system, At the global level decisions should be made taking into account the opinions of local authorities," Minnikhanov noted.
