On March 28, Tatarstan Prime Minister Ildar Khalikov arrived on a working visit in Orenburg to take part in a meeting of the Council under Plenipotentiary Presidential Envoy of the Russian Federation to Volga Federal District Mikhail Babich.
The meeting discussed measures of effective interaction of federal and regional authorities in counteracting criminal and shadow economy, as well as providing socially significant services to the population in the district's regions.
Opening the meeting, Babich noted that the "shadow" economy is a complex phenomenon, resulting from a combination of factors. "The Volga Federal District has an enormous economic potential. In 2016 alone, the amount of investment in fixed assets amounted to 2.4 trillion roubles in the district's regions. And the so-called "shadow" economy is causing real damage to the development of the regions," he emphasized.
Babich continued that in total the district's regions lost about 27 billion roubles from illegal economic activity. According to experts, about 3.5 million people were engaged in the shadow economy in the Volga Federal District last year.
Then, Governor of the Orenburg region Yury Berg made a keynote report at the meeting.
The meeting was attended by Chief Federal Inspector in Tatarstan Renat Timerzyanov, heads of the regions of the Volga Federal District, representatives of federal ministries and departments, regional executive authorities and scientific community, as well as chief federal inspectors of the Volga Federal District.
