On October 22, in Chistopol, speaking at a joint meeting of Anti-terrorist commitee in Tatarstan  and Coordination Meeting on the enforcement of the law in Tatarstan, Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov said that Tatarstan pays serious attention to prevention of terrorism and extremism.

Opening the meeting Minnikhanov noted that modern extremism and terrorism was hiden under different ideological and political doctrines, including religion. The activities of extremist religious organizations continues to be a serious factor in the destabilization of the socio-political situation in Russia and represents a serious threat to religious security and territorial integrity of the state, he added.

"A good example is the Islamic State, which has unleashed the bloody war in the Middle East with the connivance of the West. The IS continually replenishes its ranks, spreading its influence far beyond the Middle East region," Tatarstan President said.

He emphasized that Tatarstan pays serious attention to the prevention of terrorism and extremism both at the regional and municipal levels.  In particular, major work on the formation of spiritual and moral values, civic and patriotic education of youth, harmonization of interethnic and interfaith relations, combating the spread of extremism and terrorism ideology is underway.

"We should ensure coordinated work of authorities, local government and law enforcement agencies with public and religious organizations and associations, the media and other civil society institutions," Minnikhanov concluded.
